Improved Journey Planning AvailableMonday, 8 Sep 2008 Amid increasing petrol prices and congestion on roads, more people are choosing to travel on public transport. The ability for public transport operators to provide their customers with accurate, real-time transport information is increasingly important. The Jeppesen IPTIS (Integrated Public Transport Information System) journey planner developed in Brisbane, has enabled the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) National Rail Enquiries service to provide a world-leading real-time enabled journey planning service for the travelling public in the UK. This service provides in excess of 1.2 million journey planning enquiries every working day. The newly developed real-time solution integrates a train location feed into the Jeppesen IPTIS journey planner to compute optimal real-time travel options and the fares available for each travel query. ATOC's National Rail Enquiries service provides a one stop solution for all transport information needs. When scheduled journeys are disrupted and connections are missed, it provides alternative journey solutions in real-time, helping travellers find the best way to complete their journey, and reduce their frustrations. The National Rail Enquiries service, which can be found at www.nationalrail.co.uk is one of many UK and international public transport journey planning solutions provided by Jeppesen's Rail, Logistics and Terminals business based in Toowong, Brisbane. The original IPTIS journey planning engine was developed for Queensland. |
