Australian Expertise Provides Safer Rail Systems in South AfricaThursday, 13 Dec 2007 Originally, TransNet spoke with education providers in the US and Asia to source an overhaul of its driver training systems. However, as a result of Austrade's recommendation of RTI based on its international track record in rail education including a range of programmes in SE Asia, TransNet contacted RTI. RTI's programme was a comprehensive new approach to driver training that gave it key points of difference to other suppliers. These included the advantage of accelerated learning techniques; a facilitation approach rather than instruction; together with taking the students out of their "comfort zone" into a new environment for the learning experience. With Austrade's assistance, RTI overcame the potential obstacles of distance from South Africa by maintaining contacts and deal negotiations on RTI's behalf. Now, Austrade is also providing help to RTI with the possible opening of a South African office. RTI are currently training 52 TransNet staff with a further intake of 50 possible for the New Year. The initial job provided the opportunity to identify further areas of need and ongoing work opportunities. |
