Friday, 16 Jan 2009

Sydac, Australia's highly acclaimed training simulation company has been awarded a significant contract to provide training simulators for the Norwegian Rail Academy. Sydac's inaugural win in mainland Europe consolidates its position as the regions leading train simulator provider. With a value of over $10M Sydac will supply six full cab train driving simulators together with a number of rail signalling simulators in what will be the most advanced rail training centre in the world.

"Once the Simulator Centre is finished, we can re-create very realistic operating situations for student train drivers and controllers at the same time", said the Director of the Norwegian Railway Academy, Harald Storstrom. "The simulator centre we will create a controlled environment for learning, maintenance and assessment of knowledge in train driving and traffic control. The fact that we connect a traffic controller simulator and a train driver simulator delivers a very realistic learning situation".

The Norwegian Rail Academy said that "the decision to award Sydac the contract follows a thorough evaluation of tenders received and we believe that Sydac clearly meets the specific criteria required. One of the key reasons we selected Sydac was their proven technology and many global rail reference sites, the high fidelity of their technology and world class 3D imagery technology".

As well as working with Sydac and its UK partner The Railway Engineering Company (TREC), the Norwegian Rail Academy will be working with Swedish suppliers, who will play a significant role in providing cab manufacture and signaling technology.

"After expanding into the UK a few years ago and delivering driving simulators to the significant rail operators such as London Underground, Eurostar and First Scotrail this contract will allow us to prove our abilities in Mainland Europe", said Sydac CEO Adrian Smith. "The combination of both driving and train control simulators is a significant advancement in the use of simulation for rail training and we are excited to take on the challenge".

Formed in 1988 in Australia, Sydac is a world-leading supplier of simulation based training solutions for the rail, resources, transport and defence industries.
